The 2007 season is going to be a great one. We have a new coaching staff led by Head Coach Tony Johnson who has brought
a whole new out look for the team. Coach
Johnson Comes to South High after serving as Head Coach for the last three seasons. Prior to joining the Swedes
Johnson had coached at Texas A&M University of Kingsville. He served as the Offensive line coach and academic liaison.
While at Kingsville coach Johnson worked with numerous professional athletes and coached Kevin Palmer the 2003 Dave Remington
award winner as the best Division II center. Prior to Kingsville Coach Johnson had served as Offensive Coordinator at Graceland
University in Lamoni Iowa and was in charge of the number 2 nationally ranked Kick off Return team.
From 2000-01 coach
Johnson served as Head Coach at Sacred Heart High School in Salina, Kan. where his team went 11-1 and he was named CVL coach
of the year. Johnson’s team set a Kansas State record for fewest points allowed in a season. In late 1998 through the
1999 season Coach Johnson was part of the Texas Christian University Horned Frog Football team that won the Mobile Bowl and
he was also an assistant offensive line coach that help pave the way for San Diego Charger LaDanian Tomlinson to set an NCAA
rushing title. Johnson was also the NFL scout coordinator for the frogs. “It was an honor to serve Under Such a legend
as Dennis Franchione.”
Prior to joining
the frogs Johnson coached in the Shawnee Mission school district and taught U.S. History and Government. He is an avid golfer
and enjoys reading History books. He also is a published author, and owns his own business.
Coach played football
at Mid America Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas. He is married to the former Ms. Mary Mulcahy and has four children.
Coach Johnson has
been joined by Aaron Glendening Assistant Head Coach/Defense, Jeremy Scheufler Offensive Coor., Fr. Team/Special
Team Coach Eric Overmiller, and returning coaches, Courtney Scarry Wide Recievers, Brian Westoff Varsity Offence, Heath
Peine Varsity Defensive Line.
The attitude and
spirit of the team has already improved with just the short time spent with the players. By the end of the season you
are going to see the Titans marching to a different cadence, the cadence of a winning season. Go Titans!
